Dr. Hampton was born in Managua, Nicaragua but raised in New York City until high school.  She traveled throughout Central America between high school and college for two years.  During this time, she met her husband who is an Infectious Diseases specialist.

When returning to the US to start college, her family moved from New York to Florida and thus she attended the University of Florida for undergraduate work as well as medical school.  She also stayed there to do her internship in internal medicine and then moved to Charleston, SC to complete her dermatology residency at MUSC.  Afterwards, she completed at MUSC a dermatopathology fellowship.  She is boarded in dermatology and dermatopathology.

After her fellowship, she stayed on faculty at MUSC for three years and then went into private practice in 1994.  She and her husband eventually merged their practices together and now practice at one location.  They are blessed three children, ages 19 to 27.  The oldest is in medical school at MUSC, the middle one is at Rice University studying computer science and the youngest is a midshipman at the US Naval Academy.

Midlands

Emilio Perez-Jorge, MD, FACP

Emilio Perez-Jorge, MD, FACP

Dr. Perez-Jorge is an Infectious Diseases specialist with interests in HIV, infection control and medical ethics.  He has experienced the delivery of health care from different perspectives. He worked in Spain as an employed Internal Medicine/Infectious Diseases physician under a national health care model similar to the British system. He has worked in the US as a Hospitalist in private practice for 7 years and he currently works as an employed physician for a large health-care network in West Columbia.

He has seen and experienced the pros and cons of both a private and a universal health care delivery system and he believes in the right to equitable, accessible and quality health-care regardless of insurance status. He wishes doctors, public policy makers and health care systems would get their act together so he would never have to ask his patients"What insurance do you have?" ever again.
